Dear Cardinal Nation,

I’m so excited for this 2021 season!  We are going to build on our successes from last year and have a blast!   Our Cardinal experience at City Meet 2021 will be epic!!   The sport of swimming has brought me so much joy and led to many friendships with incredible people.   City meet 2021 will be my 20th Greensboro city meet as a swim parent; I have such fond memories of the pageantry, the racing, and the fun times!  Two of my children were Golden Swimmers (twice each), yet I think one of my favorite memories was when my 6-year-old Jonathan got 16th at city meet in backstroke and was psyched that his ribbon was black!

Looking at our 2021 season, my goal is to lead the Cardinal to be the best team we can be!  We will race, train, celebrate, and grow together as a team!

Currently, I am teaching fourth grade at Summerfield Elementary during the school year. In addition, I recently rejoined the coaching staff at SGSA and am a swim instructor at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. I teach “learn-to-swim” lessons for both adults and children, GAC Waves, and Adaptive Lessons for children with special needs.

I have 9 years of elementary teaching experience and over 21 years of experience coaching swimming in NC and TX.   I am ASCA Level 3 certified and led swimmers to success at the NC Junior Olympics, Age Group Sectionals, NC Senior Champs, Senior Sectionals, and American Short Course Champs.  I’ve enjoyed watching swimmers I coach continue to develop and compete at such colleges as Stanford, Texas, Clemson, UNC, Duke, NC State, UNCW, Florida State, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, Gardner-Webb, Davidson, East Carolina, University of South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Columbia, Campbell, Cornell,  Georgia Tech, Virginia, Auburn, Queens, West Virginia, and Alabama.

Away from the pool, I cheer for my alma mater University of Texas and Duke University (where my 2 older sons graduated.)  I love to be outside, either walking my French bulldog Myrtille or hanging out at our firepit.  I still swim; you’ll see me swimming laps at the Cardinal!

Hey Cardinal swimmers and parents! I am so excited to be coaching at the Cardinal again this season. I swam at the Cardinal when I was younger (2006ish-2012ish) and was a part of the coaching staff for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. In May of 2021 I will be graduating from Marshall University with a degree in health sciences with a minor in psychology. During my time at Marshall I was a conference finalist and a US Open qualifier. In high school I swam for the Greensboro Community YMCA where I was a YMCA National Champion and Junior National “A” finalist in the 100 backstroke. I also swam for Northwest Guilford High School and Green Valley.

Outside of swimming I have spent my last semester of college interning at a local food bank in Huntington, West Virginia where I create health education materials. After graduating I plan to move back to North Carolina and attend graduate school to earn a master’s degree in teaching with a specialization in middle school science. I’m looking forward to this summer!

I’m currently a junior at Northern Guilford High school. I am a UT Longhorns fan and it is a dream of mine to swim and study at the University of Texas. I’ve been swimming for as long as I can remember but really started competitive swim when I was about 10. I currently swim for Swim GSA and my favorite stroke is freestyle but I also enjoy fly and backstroke. This past summer I swam the 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800 free at Jr. Nationals in Indianapolis. This will be my first year at the Cardinal but I have swam summer swim in Greensboro for the past 5 years and am excited to continue summer swim with the Cardinal. My favorite food is guacamole and my spirit animal is a llama!

I’ve been apart of the cardinal team since 2007 when I was 5 years old. I swam year round from 2015-2019 with Star aquatics. I am a senior at Northwest HS (still yet to make a decision for college). My favorite food is lasagna or anything that is super spicy. My spirit animal is a polar bear. I can’t wait to be a part of the Cardinal coaching staff this summer!

Volunteer Coach In Training

Hi! My name is Etan Ferguson and I am going to be an assistant coach for the team. I am a sixteen your old dude going into 11th grade in the year 2021-2022. Some of my favorite things to do are dive competitively, drive around town, play piano and sing, hang out with my friends and play rocket league. I have been swimming since I was about 7 but I stopped doing it in the winter and now I dive year-round. I love having fun, cracking jokes, and just being an all-around goofball filled with energy. I am really excited to help coach and strengthen the team this year so we can do nothing but catch dubs. I can’t wait to meet and learn about everyone!

Hi! I am Junior in high school who enjoys all sorts of athletics. I started swimming when I was 7 and have swam every summer since. Since my freshman year I have swam for the Northwest High School swim team. I’m not a year round swimmer, but I always work hard when I get the chance. I started swimming at Bur-mil but joined the Cardinal a few years ago. In my free time i enjoy hanging with my pet “owl”.
